The waterproof that helps you swing

I spent most of Saturday morning testing the New Nike Hyperadapt waterproof jacket, and the results were fantastic. The new technology in the jacket allows a better range of movement and less restriction in the swing. I tested 20 golfers and found an average of 4mph increase in swing speed over their current waterproof.

The jacket certainly does what it claims, and if you would like to see for yourself then call in and take the challenge.

Every member that takes the challenge in October will go into a draw to win a Nike Shirt.

Click here to check out our members testing the new Hyperadapt jacket.

Neil Atherton and Simon Burnett had a few words say about the trial. Click here to see a video with their views.

Stretch for success

You may not be aware that I am a Qualified TPI golf biomechanics instructor and am able to screen golfers for physical limitations and give advice about fitness, nutrition and excercises. In my attempt to find some club head speed for the 2016 season, I have been putting together a comprehensive stretching routine and I will share a stretch with you week during the off season.

This week's stretch is the A Frame stretch - which is ideal before you play to fire your hamstrings, glutes, lats and shoulders.

As you can see from the image below, I set up in golf posture, then lean forward to put my hand inside one knee and my elbow inside my other knee. I then raise and rotate my other arm to give a full stretch.

If you would like any advice or help with this area of the game then please call into the shop and book a screening session, or click here to get in touch.

Pros news

Know your yardages

I spent some time in the studio earlier this week, working on my gapping yardages for all of my clubs. It is very important to know your yardages, and I would recommend you do this at least twice a year.

We can make alterations to your clubs if we find any inconsistent yardage gaps, and ensure that you have a fully matched set of lofts. As you can see from the numbers below, my yardage gaps are pretty good:

Driver - 250 carry
3 wood - 230 carry
3 hybrid - 210 carry
4 iron - 185 carry
5 iron - 175 carry
6 iron - 165 carry
7 iron - 150 carry
8 iron - 140 carry
9 iron - 130 carry
PW - 120 carry
50 deg - 110 carry
54 deg - 100 carry
58 deg - 90 carry

Knowing these yardages is vital when I am out on the golf course, also as I am trying to increase my distance, I will measure again in a few weeks.

If you would like to book a yardage gapping session in the studio, click here to get in touch, or come and have a chat with us in the pro shop, and receive 50% OFF the price.

Course news

With the dry weather continuing for the early part of this week the team have been able to make good inroads into a variety of tasks.

At the start of the week we completed a hole tine aeration process on the aprons (see below). This process removes material from the profile to help manage organic matter levels and improve soil conditions. We have also continued our aeration program on the greens with the deep probe air inject machine working away.

We have also started an upgrade on the third winter tee area. Here, we have extended the tee backwards toward the main tee to provide more teeing space and a little extra length on the shot into the green. It is hoped the improvements will be of benefit to the hole. With the use of germination sheets it is hoped that this area will be ready for use in the early part of November.

Mizuno irons update

If you’ve yet to check out the new Mizuno MP-5 and MP-25 irons, then make sure you do – they’re quite something. It’s all about Boron Crystal, according to Mizuno, and although “not very sexy” what it does, is. Want to learn more?
