English Ladies Amatuer success
We have almost finished one of the busiest weeks of the year, as the English Ladies Championships comes to a close, and the William Rainford Trophy finishes this evening.
The Ladies Championships ran as smoothly as ever, and we have heard nothing but compliments about the club and the St Annes Old Links Team. The course has been presented magnificently, and one of the international players popped into the pro shop to say "these greens are class".
Most of the competitors play courses across the globe, and they have mentioned that our greens are some of the best they have played on. Greg and his team have worked tirelessly to prepare the course this summer, and we must congratulate them for their work. I only hope that the club will recognize this and take Greg on after his interim period.
Captain and Lady Captain on Air
Earlier in the week, Sally Naden and her team contacted me to see if she could have a chat about other events happening in the town, whilst the Lytham Festival dominates the headlines. With the Ladies Championships at St Annes Old Links, I suggested that they pop down to the course for a chat on Tuesday, and we could explain what was happening, and even get a few words from the Captain, Lady Captain and a few of the competitors. Sure enough, Brett from the breakfast show came along , and recorded about 5 minutes with us on Tuesday afternoon, with the intention of airing some time later in the week. The Captain and Lady Captain spoke very well, and we discussed the increasing popularity of the sport for young females, and the "#this girl golfs" campaign.
Off the backof this, I have waited until the completion of the English Ladies Championship event to announce that I will be running a course of LADIES ONLY - FREE GROUP COACHING SESSIONS with the aim to inspire more Ladies to take up the game.
The first course will aim to attract girls aged 12 - 18, so please speak to friends and relatives who might be interested in taking up the sport.
Mid Tournament Putter Fitting
On Tuesday I was asked by one of the competitors to help them with their putting, as they had putted very poorly during the first round. I spent a short while explaining how the stroke and putter weren't matched, and as soon as we used a putter that suited her stroke, the ball seemed to find the hole. The player explained that she had never been fitted for a putter, and she plays in the Scottish National Team. The putter is your most used club, and can make or break your round.
We generally use our putters twice as much as our drivers, yet we get fitted regularly for a new driver. As soon as we found the putter that suited her stroke, and her eye, we altered the grip to ensure the best feel. Sure enough the competitor went on to putt much better in the second round. Take a look at the putter fitting video to see what we can do.
Let me help you find the putter to suit your stroke…email me here.

A good week has been had by most players whether it was in a team match or at home at Old Links.
Adult & Junior Friendly - Sunday, 9 August
As I write this we are still short of players both from the Adult Section and Juniors. Numerous Juniors are away on holiday therefore I intend to see how many we have by weekend and if we do not have enough then I will postpone this event to a later date when everyone is at home and possibly available to play.
Gathurst Match - Tuesday, 11 August
All those who are playing in the re-arranged match at Gathurst on this date plus parent helpers should have received a final reminder email from me. Please meet at Old Links for 12 midday and this time let us hope the weather is much kinder to us. Please contact me if you have any last minute queries.
All Junior event -Friday, 14 August - 6 pm
Gary from our pro shop and myself are hosting a Junior event at Old Links for ALL Juniors (with a handicap or not) from 6 pm to approx. 7.30. There is NO fee to pay. We simply want to get all the Junior section together so that you get to know one another better, especially the newer Juniors.
Gary will set up a competitive course on the chipping green for you. Please come along to join in no matter what golf level you are at. Parents/family are very welcome to come and watch or partake in a coffee/drink in the clubhouse whilst waiting.
If the weather is very bad please contact the pro shop beforehand to check if this is going ahead but only if it really is very bad. If it is just a bit drizzly it will go ahead.
Busy week ahead
17 August - Old Links Junior Open - I still need lots more helpers for this please - the form is on the board in the Hall to kindly put your names down.

Walker Cup News
Royal Lytham are hosting the Walker Cup on 12 & 13 September when the leading amateurs from GB and Ireland play against the USA.

I'm told play will be foursomes in mornings and singles in afternoons. The website is RandA.org where you can also purchase tickets or Tel. 01334 466000 for tickets office.
As I mentioned last week, our elder and some past juniors are working in this event so look out for them. This will be well worth you going to watch so if you are under 16 years of age try to get along to watch some of this for free.
That's it for this week. We are now heading into our busiest time of the year for Junior golf so please ensure you put everything in your phone diaries to ensure you don't miss anything.
